“Destination” is inspired by an eight day trip to Tunisia, Africa. This painting is inspired by the landscape, colors and patterns used throughout the country. The blues and greens used in this piece are commonly seen in architecture, textiles and pottery of that region. “Destination” is also inspired by the mall in Washington, DC. Where there is also a long reflecting pool that leads to historical monuments.
’m choosing “Destination” as the June monthly feature because it’s symbolic of a journey or transition. June is the month that transitions from lively spring to long summer days. In “Destination” the sun could be rising or setting. The reflective pool creates a sense of movement or perspective. The viewer could either be departing from or approaching the sun. It is this ambiguity that creates a sense of mystery and makes this piece interesting. Everyone has goals; something they are looking forward to or striving to attain. The sun in this painting represents exactly that.
